BRASS WOVEN, COLOMBIA
Meet David Caicedoz!
While visiting our Embera Chami artisans in October 2017, we were very fortunate to meet a young and aspiring jewelry designer, David Caicedoz. David was vending his handmade and one-of-kind brass necklaces on the busy streets Bogotá, Colombia.
Inspired by Pre-Hispanic gold designs as seen in The Museum of Gold ( El Museo del Oro) and detailed ancient Aztec jewelry making techniques, David's pieces are truly beautifully unique. David uses simple materials consisting of nickel free brass wire and semi-precious stones. When looking through David's fine collection, he expressed that each piece allows him to reconnect with his ancestors and heritage with a modern perspective of simplicity. For David Caicedoz, each piece has an opportunity to be a symbolic representation of the masculine energy, feminine energy, and elements of nature. One detailed piece can occupy David's time for 5 - 8 days.
We are honored to work closely with David by representing him as one of our first International Colombian Contemporary jewelry designers.
